Project title:   Building with Massive Wood – developing student understanding and workmanship in the use of massive wood construction elements, while cherishing our local building traditions and celebrating the diversity of architectural expressions.

Participants:

Vocational school, ARNA VGS, Bergen, Norway

Vocational school, LBS-Pöchlarn, Austria

University of applied sciences, FH-Biel, Switzerlan

Vocational school, LBS-Kuchl, Austria

Part 1 here in Kuchl implied issues related to the renewable raw material „wood“ in general.  Subjects like, wood conversion(sawmilling), log measurement, timber measurement, seasoning, stacking, visual grading, sawing patterns and recovery(rate of yield) were executed in theoretical and practical manners.

Beside professional input, we tried to show our guests the beauty, history and way of life in our region.

It made me happy to see that, after being one week together, the different groups united, melted to one single group of students and teachers, lots of personal contacts socialized. Sociocultural realtions, the second big goal of the BMWood-Project could be achieved.

In this spirit: Let us face the future
